Meningkatkan Kesiapsiagaan Mahasiswa Dalam Pencegahan Dan Penanggulangan Kebakaran Melalui Pelatihan APAR Dan APAT

Abstract

Fires are one of the man-made disasters that can cause property damage, loss of life, and disruption to community activities. Efforts to improve preparedness are crucial, especially for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) students who are being trained as future professionals in the field of safety. This community service activity aims to improve students’ knowledge, skills, and preparedness in fire prevention and response through training on the use of portable fire extinguishers (APAR) and traditional firefighting equipment (APAT). The training was held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Faculty of Public Health, Halu Oleo University, involving 95 students majoring in OSH. The methods used included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on practice using an experiential learning approach. Evaluation was conducted through observation of participants’ engagement and performance during the practical sessions. The results of the activity showed that participants were able to properly follow the procedures for using APAR and APAT, were active in discussions, and demonstrated greater readiness to perform initial fire suppression actions. This training contributed to improving student preparedness while supporting the development of a safety culture within the university environment.
